Abstract feedback
Feedback on your abstract, without rewriting it.
This tool reads the abstract you paste, counts the words and tells you which of the five usual parts are there or missing. Weak sentences also come in that result, one by one.
It gives feedback only. It will not rewrite your abstract, and we kept it like that on purpose. Examiners read the abstract first. Shodhganga readers and journal editors also start there, and many times they read nothing else. So the abstract must be in your own words. Still, some gaps are easy to catch early with this tool. Maybe the method sentence is not there at all. Maybe a result is written but no number is given for it. Better you find it now itself, before your guide is marking it in red ink.
The AI check is switched off for now. You can call or WhatsApp us instead, and we’ll go through it with you.
Not sure the answer fits your study? WhatsApp us or call, and we’ll look at it with you.
How the tool works
This tool does not work inside your browser. Your abstract goes from your computer to our server, and from there to OpenAI. OpenAI’s language model reads it with fixed instructions from us. You will get back three things in the reply.
- The word count. We count the words on our own server. The model is not doing this count, so you get the exact number. Suppose you gave a limit of 250 or 300 words in the box. Then the result will say whether your abstract is inside that limit, and if it crossed, by how many words.
- The five parts. First the model looks for the background, meaning why this topic matters at all. Then the aim, what the study wanted to do. After that it searches for the method you used and the result you got. Last is the conclusion, what that result actually means. Each part gets a tick or a cross. Wherever a part is found, the model quotes the exact words from your abstract that cover it.
- Things to fix. Up to five problems that would make a reader stop, each in one sentence with your words quoted. Common ones we are seeing are a claim with nothing behind it, a result without figures and a short form never expanded. Some abstracts give an aim the results never answer, or say one point twice.
We told the model never to rewrite your abstract and never to suggest a replacement sentence. When the reply comes back, our server first looks whether it is in proper format, and only then it is shown to you. It also refuses text that is not research writing. The box takes 2,500 characters at most. In words that is around 350 to 400.
Your abstract is not stored with us. We keep only the answer, that too for a short time. It is locked with a key made out of your own abstract, and after the next day it gets deleted. Free checks are limited to a few per day for one visitor. Look at the small line below the button to know your balance. Details are in our privacy policy. For how a thesis abstract is built, read our thesis abstract guide.
Questions scholars ask
How long should a thesis abstract be?
It depends on your university. Some give a word limit, some give a page limit, and journals have their own word limit. Type your limit in the box and the result will say if your abstract fits.
Why won’t it rewrite my abstract?
The abstract has to be your own writing. In the UGC 2018 plagiarism regulations, the abstract is named in the list of thesis parts that must be original. Once a model has written those lines, they are the model’s lines only, and you cannot submit them as yours. The tool shows where the problem is. You do the corrections in your own words.
My abstract has no background sentence. Is that wrong?
Not always. Many short journal abstracts skip the background and start with the aim. In a thesis abstract there is mostly room for one background line. Examiners do like to know why you took up this study. Ask to your guide what your university prefers.
Is my abstract stored?
No copy of your abstract is kept with us. OpenAI receives it to write the feedback, under OpenAI’s own terms. The feedback is kept encrypted till the end of the next day and then deleted.
Why did I get a message instead of feedback?
Mostly the text was too short, too long or not research writing. Paste full abstract the same way it is in your thesis. Sometimes the model itself gives a broken reply. Then click the button one more time. That failed attempt is not counted against your free checks.
